Milestone 9.1

VM Creation - Server Core

  • A VM was created to serve as a base image for Win2019 Server Core. The following configuration was applied within the newly created VM:
  • VM Name: server-core-base
  • Add named local admin
  • sconfig Windows Updates: Manual
  • Download & install all updates
  • Installed VMWare Tools (via CD)
  • Sysprep w/ 480sysprep script
    • Download via Invoke-WebRequest -Uri https://tinyurl.com/480sysprep -OutFile ...

The VM is then powered off (automatically by Sysprep), the ISO file is removed from the settings, and a Base snapshot is taken. This VM is prepared for the rest of the milestone.

VM Creation - Windows 10 LTSC

A VM was additionally created to serve as a base image for Windows 10. The following was altered:

  • VM Name: win10-base
  • User (local admin): reed
  • Installed system updates
  • Installed VMWare Tools (via CD)
  • Sysprep with script above

The same preparation completed on Server Core is then repeated for this VM, to prepare it for clone creation.

Dc-blue1 IP Settings

A linked clone of Server Core named dc-blue1 is created in the BLUE1 environment. The following VM is started, and the newly created Set-WindowsIP 480Utils function is used to change the network settings to the following:

  • IP Address: 10.0.5.5/24
  • Gateway: 10.0.5.2
  • DNS: 10.0.5.2

Milestone 9.2

Dc-blue1 Configuration

The VM had ADDS installed, a new forest created, and was promoted to DC through the use of an Ansible script, available in my GitHub repository for this course.
